Spoofing


Spoofing is a situation in which one person pretends to be another by falsifying data, to gain advantage of that person. It happens when one person/program is trying to be seen as another which it is not. It is a malpractice which is used by Hackers to steal data/information for financial gain.
Spoofing can apply to Email, phone calls, and websites also IP Address or Domain Name System (DNS) server.


Types of Spoofing :

1.Email Spoofing
When Attacker sends the email and the recipient is tricked into thinking that it came from the trusted source. The email can have links to malicious websites.
For example :- A person is working in company and he gets the report from “JamesCharles” and that person has to send the details on the same. In Email, spoofing he/she might get the email from “JamezCharlez” and this is how attacker would be able to get the data/information.


2.Caller ID Spoofing
In this Spoofing, the person who is getting call from attacker will get a call from someone that recipient trusts or is known. Attackers then pretends to be calling from bank or customer support and convinces recipient in divulging the sensitive information like Password, PIN Number, Account Information etc.


3.Website Spoofing
When a website is designed to copying an existing known site and/or trusted by the user.

Online banking fraud

Online banking fraud is a fraud or kind of theft of Cybercrime. Any person using online technology can  remove  money from a bank account and transfer it to different account. It is possible through techniques like phishing, spamming etc. Internet has become the ground for cybercriminals to commit online crimes like data frauds, thefts and hacking. Criminals are targeting online banking facilities, credit/debit/ATM cards, payment gateways and other net banking techniques to commit illegal transactions. Internet banking is used to check account details, check account statement, bill payment, make purchases, money transfer etc. Generally all users need to provide id and password to secure transaction But, due to some ignorance or mistakes you can easily fall into the trap of  cyber criminals.

1.Stolen credit or debit card
2.Cloning of debit or credit cards
3.Stolen PIN number or banking passwords
4.Hacked accounts and mobile apps
5.Stolen CVV and OTP number

Learn the ways to protect yourself from online banking fraud schemes:

1 Try to avoid online banking on public wifi and access it from home PC. Never share password to anyone.
2 Do not respond to any message or email asking about your bank information or personal details.
3. Always check website when you’re entering user ID or password.
4 Avoid using easy to guess passwords like first names, birthdays, kid’s name or telephone numbers. Change your banking passwords regularly.

File complaint about online banking fraud:

If you think, you have been victim of online crime do report it crime immediately to the bank. Every banks have installed CCTV cameras in bank premises and ATM outlets, and they notify customers through email and SMS about any transaction from their account.

A person can file an application under Section 46 of Information Technology Act, 2000 if he/she falls victim to any online banking crime.
Section 43A of Information Technology Act, 2000 states that the banks and other intermediary platform are responsible for the safe banking and if fail to do so, will be liable to pay adequate compensation to the customer. The bank is liabile to prove that it took enough measures to prevent any illegal and unauthorised transactions.

Hiding Behind Incognito Browsing

Incognito means the private browsing and private window where your search will not record in any browser and cookies. This browsing is available among all browsers like chrome, Firefox to name few. Incognito browsing mainly benefits when multiple users use same computer. No other person can see or share the browsing history of other if they are working on separate Incognito tabs. This browsing will not save any data or history. Any person who visit to any website through icognito will not be able to save history ,cookies and password.

Incognito browsing helps to stop cyber crime like hacking and others. It is one of the finest way for any person to visit to any website safely. There is no history and cookies.

1. Majority of the people use private browsing at home (77.7%).

2. Those who use private browsing use it in a public place(36.33%).

Is it really Effective or just some illusion to give us a sense of safety?

Different types of devices like Andriod and Chromebooks including Youtube or Google are shown in this study where authors unveil that how Google can connect your browsing history with your account. It let you know that on the screen that “Now you can browse privately, and other people use this device won’t see your activity.” Having said that it also warn that your activity still is noticed by websites you visit, internet service providers, and the school or employer that controls the network. To conclude, Incognito can be used as safe way of browsing to only some extent.

Cyber Stalking

Cyber stalking is a form of cyber crime. It’s a web based crime. It is less known to citizens. It basically means one person stalking other person with the help of social media sites and any other online platform. Cyber stalkers try to hack any victim id and then blackmail the victim by demanding some money. In our nation stalking is considered as a crime and it is also punishable under Indian Penal Code. Cyber Stalking is also consider as crime but it was not globally known by everyone and that’s the major reason through which cyber Stalking is increasing. People feel that it is not a crime,they can do whatever they want. People are afraid to use social media because they think if they use any platform their data would get stolen and misused. In this way, I think that cyber stalkers are harmful for our society .

Although cyber stalking is done by many ways some of them are given below:

1. Tracking the every movement of any person by placing device on the car.
2. Creating and posting fake or real sexual images of any person.
3. Hack and saved emails, texts and social media post or blackmail of person.
4. Posting personal and fake information of any individual and his family.
5. Using any person social media account.
6. Threatening the victim or their friends and family via emails and others online platform.
7. Uploading the person details and adress of the any person via internet.

Basically cyber stalking takes place on platforms that are Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Cyber stalkers canbe found on any social media platform.

Crucial Tips to Protect Yourself from Cyberstalking

1. All accounts must be secured by passwords.

Account password should be pretty hard to guess.Credit card,debit card,net banking password should be hard enough so that no one can guess it easily.

2. Password should be changed once in every 2-3 months

Password should be regularly updated.

3. Conduct an internet search using your email and phone number

No other information should be given except email & mobile number.

4. Never publish home Address

An individual should not give his/her permanent address.An alternative adress should be given always to prevent any mishap by cyber criminals.

In a nutshell, Cyberstalking is a dangerous crime in our society. Cyberstalking not only hurt Victims but also hurt their families, friends and even the offenders are affected in some way, shape or form.
